TheInstitut du Monde Arabe will be bringing the Thousand-Year-Old Cities to life in a virtual journey from Palmyra to Mosul for 4 months, from October 10, 2018 to February 10, 2019. The exhibition is even entitled to extensions until February 17, 2019 in view of its success.
Thanks to digitization technologies, we'll be able to discover the architectural riches of the cities of Mosul and Aleppo, as well as the prestigious archaeological sites of Palmyra and Leptis Magna, symbols of humanity's world heritage and the multicultural history of Near Eastern civilizations, now threatened, damaged, looted or destroyed.
Imagine visiting Aleppo (Syria) and Mosul (Iraq), as well as the vanished archaeological sites of Palmyra and Leptis Magna, symbols of humanity's world heritage and the multicultural history of civilizations in the Near East.
Conceived in partnership with UNESCO and with the support of Iconem and Ubisoft, a world leader in entertainment, the exhibition will feature giant projections, some of them 360°, in addition to videos and testimonials from local people, to give us a great experience.
As you can see, Cités millénaires is more than just an exhibition; it's a manifesto. What's more, "dynamic mediation tables" help visitors locate damaged buildings, neighborhoods and monuments, and reconstruct their history using archival images and animated photographs.
