The Serenissima in the spotlight! The Grand Palais is offering an exhibition dedicated to the city of Venice and the development of the arts during its prosperous period, entitled Eblouissante Venise, from September 26, 2018 to January 21, 2019. An exhibition that showcases the City of the Doges in a colorful light and pays tribute to the city and its artistic page, through the selection of " the most significant paintings, sculptures, drawings and objects, as well as through the presence of actors and musicians performing in situ ".
At the dawn of the 18th century, Venice shone with the talent of its artists, both in painting and music. This was due to the presence in the city of renowned artists such as Piazzetta, Gianbattista Tiepolo, Canaletto, Hasse, Porpora, Brustolon and Vivaldi. The arts were also encouraged by the city's " Ospedali ", where orphaned and poor girls received a thorough musical education.
These artists radiated throughout Europe, often being invited by foreign patrons: portraitists such as Canaletto, Rosalba Carriera, Pellegrini and Bellotto are just a few examples, traveling to France, Austria and England. The myth of Venice, "a city unique in its history, architecture, lifestyle and festive vitality ", is explored by the Grand Palais through its rooms, installations and scenography, worthy of a Venetian palace.
Please note that it's been over 4 years since our last visit, so the place and experience may have changed.
