Joan Miró in the spotlight! From October 3, 2018 to February 4, 2019, the Grand Palais presents an exhibition focusing on the work of the Catalan artist. A retrospective focusing on the artist's pivotal periods, through the presentation of over 150 works from major European and American museums, as well as private collections. Neither abstract nor figurative, his art has become a veritable language over the years, and has never ceased to develop.
The exhibition space at the Grand Palais has been carefully designed to showcase the painter's major works, recalling Miró's Mediterranean universe. Paintings, drawings, ceramics, sculptures... A wide range of media enable visitors to discover or rediscover the artist and his highly distinctive work, based on " an itinerary marked by constant renewal ".
The exhibition begins with the Fauve, Cubist and Detailist periods, and continues with the Surrealist period, " when Miróinvented a poetic world hitherto unknown in twentieth-century painting ". The idea behind this tour? To highlight " the artist's questioning, his research and his palette of colors, always at the service of a vocabulary of unusual and new forms ". The final rooms focus on the artist's last 25 years, when Miró was living in Mallorca and creating larger works, giving " breadth to a gesture as meticulously precise as ever ".
Please note that it's been over 4 years since our last visit, so the place and experience may have changed.
