This is it! 2018 looks set to be the year of Michael Jackson, as after a trip to London's National Portrait Gallery between June and October, an exhibition dedicated to him arrives in France, in Paris, and more precisely at the Grand Palais from November 23, 2018 to February 14, 2019. An event organized on the occasion of his birthday, since the King of Pop would have celebrated his 60th birthday this year.
The exhibition, entitled Michael Jackson: On the Wall, focuses on "the cultural impact of Michael Jackson's personality and work in the field of contemporary art from the 1980s to the present day". A title in homage to his fifth solo album, produced by Quincy Jones in 1979, and an angle that has never been exploited in exhibitions devoted to the artist. And a godsend, since the singer is one of"the most represented personalities in the visual arts".
At this exhibition, visitors can discover the works of forty artists who were touched and inspired by the man. Paintings, sculptures and installations from public and private collections around the world: from David LaChapelle to Andy Warhol, including Marvin Gaye Chetwynd, Rita Ackerman, Yan Pei-Ming, Dara Birnbaum, Greyson Perry, Keith Harring, Jonathan Horowitz, Hank Willis Thomas and Rashid Johnson .... All have been influenced by the interpreter in their respective art forms.
Drawings, paintings, sculptures, photos or videos... These are just some of the media used to showcase this art icon, on display at the Grand Palais in chronological order, allowing visitors to"follow his transformation from gifted young boy to world legend". The exhibition will then tour Europe, visiting Bonn in Germany and Espoo in Finland.
Please note that it's been over 4 years since our last visit, so the place and experience may have changed.
