Amid the coronavirus outbreak, French and Parisian museums had to shut down because of confinement, but they’ve found a way to come to us and offer curious their collections without having them leaving their homes. How come? With many virtual tours and entertainments for families. And the Musée des Arts Décoratifs is part of the museums that answered the call of the Ministry of Culture with the #CultureChezNous action, inviting art fans to discover their permanent collections but digitally, that is to stay, you can stay on your sofa.
On the menu then, a virtual tour of the permanent collection at 360°, including the nave, the gallery of jewels and even Jeanne Lanvin’s apartment. You’ll also enjoy a booklet for children (starting from 6 years old) about nature, Japanism, light, geometry and even animated picture. You also have the opportunity to virtually walk around the Harper’s Bazaar’s exhibition currently exhibited at the museum.
Sketching and other drawing fans can challenge their talent with a drawing contest, A vos crayons !, in partnership with the Le Dessin sans Réserve exhibition. A contest open to all students from high schools, art schools, schools of applied art and universities over 18 years old. Note the participation is organized “under the aegis of the school, the graduate school or university, by class, by group of students or by student” the museum says.
To take part in this contest, you have to meet every day on the MAD Paris’ website or Twitter account and discover a letter of the abecedarium and two matching drawings. Then, you have to draw a drawing inspired by this abecedarium and send it to avoscrayons@madparis.fr within ten days. Note that drawings selected by the jury will be released in a digital collection as part of the Le Dessin sans Réserve exhibition.
