From October 13, 2021 to May 30, 2022, the Musée de l'Homme invites us on a journey of initiation, Aux frontières de l'humain . Contemporary artworks, museographic objects, multimedia devices and audiovisual projections form a complete journey, which questions the nature of humanity.
Art, sport, the ability to improve or replace body parts, speech, inventiveness... What defines mankind? What makes us unique in the universe? Rest assured, this isn't the beginning of a long rhetorical lecture; these are simply the questions that have been nagging at us for centuries, and which are at the heart of the new exhibition at the Musée de l'Homme!
The exhibition is divided into six chapters, each framed by an introduction and an epilogue.Animal man, champion man, capable of breaking incredible strength records, cyborg man, equipped with prostheses, implants, exoskeletons...
And soon, mutant man? A scientifically enhanced individual endowed with supernatural abilities?
Between artificial limbs and genetic enhancements, where is the boundary between ethical and human? Would you be prepared to make a baby in Brito, with selected characteristics and free from transmitted diseases?
Then comes the ultimate question: will man become a kind of superman, an immortal being immune to disease and aging thanks to medical progress? Unfortunately, this utopia is undermined by another factor: the environment and climate change will not allow us to live forever.
With animal species populations dwindling and the earth's resources stretched to the limit, what are the alternatives?
But in the end, isn't this what mankind is all about: the acute awareness of our fragility, and the desire to thrive and live, in spite of it all?
These questions and fascinating scenarios can be found at the Musée de l'Homme, which offers us even more captivating avenues for reflection. Curious, dreamers, fans of science and fiction, you know which exhibition to visit right now!
Finally, note that with this temporary exhibition, your ticket gives you access to the free Sneakers exhibition, which looks back at the history of the famous shoes.
