Chiharu Shiota’s style fans are expected at Paris Musée Guimet this spring. For their 14th carte blanche to contemporary art, the famous Parisian museum devoted to Asian arts invites Chiharu Shiota. From March 16 to June 6, 2022, come and discover her latest work where once again red thread is prevailing.
Very dear to the Japanese artist, red thread represents a matter both oneiric, organic and intellectual. Chiharu Shiota uses it to give shape to her immersive and contradictory architectures. Through her different works, the artist – who represented Japan at the Venise Biennale in 2015 – invites us to think about the links surrounding us and the screens between us, as well as what undoes human societies.
This new piece, presented at the Musée Guimet, was created during lockdown. For Chiharu Shiota, this health crisis period has been the occasion to focus on the domestic space and family cocoon. A dramatic change for this artist renowned all around the world for her huge string installations. With this new installation, Chiharu Shiota makes us think about our daily lives that became at that time minuscule by weaving an inextricable protective network.
For the record, the Musée Guimet is also the occasion to discover the “L’Arc et le sabre” exhibition:
L'Arc et le Sabre - imaginaire guerrier du Japon exhibition at the Musée Guimet
