After having devoted carte blanche to the Japanese artist Chiharu Shiota and then to the Chinese artist Wang Keping, the Musée Guimet invites Park Dong-Soo to embellish its rotunda located on the 4th floor, just a few meters from the beautiful summer terrace.
To be discovered from May 24 to September 18, 2023, this new and 17th carte blanche of the famous Parisian museum dedicated to Asian arts marks the great return of Park Dong-Soo to the international art scene after 15 years of absence. This cultural event is eagerly awaited by the many admirers of this South Korean artist, inspired by cosmogony, the collision of planets and volcanic eruptions.
So what can we expect? Park Dong-Soo - who studied visual arts in Versailles and then in Paris - has imagined a veritable cartography of the cosmos, inviting the visitor to ask questions about time, space, energy and the immutable forces that govern our world.
Entitled"Cette place-là", this spectacular installation is composed of two sets that form a whole: large black and white canvases and cubic sculptures of the same colors, distributed in the center of the room in an order of increasing size towards the center, in a pyramidal structure. The installation then takes on its full meaning and we are faced with the evolution of a life form. With"This place", Park Dong-Soo creates an explosive and atomic universe, inviting to meditation, even to meditation. A moment suspended in time, to be experienced from May 24 to September 18, 2023 on the 4th floor of the Guimet Museum.
