Easily recognizable with her unibrow and her traditional Mexican outfits, Frida Kahlo is a major painter artist whose inspiring story marked minds. Born in 1907, in her parents’ house, the Casa Azul in Mexico, she catches polio at age 6, and ends up with her right leg atrophied. At 17, she got in a bus accident, severely injuring her. Following this challenge, she awakens her artist soul: “I am not dead and I have a reason to live. That reason is painting”, she is said to have claimed.
This is how her artist career debuted, and the Frida Kahlo legend started to build up. In addition to her work, her commitment to the feminist cause, her relationship with her handicap, and her strong Mexican identity propelled her to the rank of icon. The Palais Galliera exhibition is to immerge us in the universe of this committed artist through over 200 pieces from the Casa Azul, the home she was born and died in, and where she still lies.
Another exhibition within the exhibition is also to unveil Frida Kahlo’s influence on the world of fashion.
Here is an exhibition we are looking forward to!
