If you're a lover of contemporary art, here's a chance to get off the beaten track just a stone's throw from Paris... Head for the Château de la Maye, in Versailles, to discover an exhibition resulting from an artists' residency initiated by the Verrecchia Endowment Fund, État(s) de Matière, on view until October 1.
[midroll]
The artists' residency began last June, with Bap! 2022, the Biennale d'Architecture et de Paysages d'Île-de-France, and continues beyond the Journées du Patrimoine, on September 17 and 18, 2022, culminating in a presentation of the artists' finished works for the occasion. And there's plenty of entertainment in store too!
In addition to the Heritage Days, the Verrecchia Endowment Fund invites you to discover the many works of the artists, and to take part in discussions. In all, some ten artists will be taking turns on site: the Pria collective, Kuamen, Denis Macrez, Miles Le Gras, Caroline Besse, Emilie Hirayama, Marine Zonca, Nova Materia, Pic Studio... These are just some of the contemporary artists working with the same material: cut stone.
The stone comes from the limestone quarries of Nogent-sur-Oise, and takes over the former hospital in a variety of forms straight from the artists' imaginations. For those unfamiliar with working with stone, Compagnons du devoir will be on hand to help them create their works, some of which have been devised in collaboration with the Lycée professionnel Camille Claudel in Remiremont, Vosges.
So, shall we make a reservation, folks?
