Jane Jin Kaisen was born in Korea in 1980 and adopted in Denmark the same year. In her visually strong feminist works, which are poetic, polyphonic and performative, the past and the present enter into correspondence in a multiplicity of layers.
In addressing the subjects of memory, migration, borders and translation, she creates a crossroads between the space of lived experience and knowledge, and that of larger-scale political histories.
"I have worked a lot on historical events that are very violent or traumatic. For example, the Jeju Island massacre or the Korean War, or sexual violence that stems from militarization [...] I am drawn to historical documents, to these hidden or discrete stories and narratives. I often use archival documents in my work, but they rarely serve as evidence for me." - Jane Jin Kaisen.
Through excerpts from several of Jane Jin Kaisen's cinematic works, the audience will be introduced to the artist's artistic practices that span the spectrum from video installation, to experimental narrative film, to photography, to performance and text. It will also be an opportunity to explore the Maison du Danemark, located on the Champs-Elysées!
