The Lélia Mordoch Gallery invites you to discover its latest exhibition, Let There Be Light, based on the works of the late Horacio Garcia Rossi from March 17 to May 20, 2023. This retrospective pays tribute to the Argentinean artist and celebrates his love for spring exhibitions. Note that the opening is on March 16, from 6 to 9 pm, marking a new stage in the long collaboration between the gallery and the artist since their first joint exhibition in May 1992.
The exhibition, curated by his daughter Barbara Garcia Lemaitre and his gallerist Lélia Mordoch, brings together emblematic works from their personal collection. It includes light boxes from the 1960s and kinetic spheres from the 1970s, as well as gouaches and paintings made between the 1990s and 2010. Visitors will be able to appreciate the artist's evolution through his different periods, including his mastery of light color and light as a plastic element, which gives the illusion that each canvas is lit from within.
Horacio Garcia Rossi, who died in 2012, made his mark onkinetic and opticalart from the 1960s. A founding member of the Groupe de Recherche d'Art Visuel (GRAv) alongside Julio Le Parc, François Morellet, Francisco Sobrino, Joël Stein and Yvaral, he explored the potential of Plexiglas in the 1970s before devoting himself fully to the color light in painting. His rich and influential career is a testament to his passion for experimentation and artistic research.
This exhibition is a unique opportunity to rediscover the work ofHoracio Garcia Rossi, a major artist of the contemporary and kinetic scene of the 20th century. Don't miss this celebration of the return of light, which offers visitors a dazzling and enchanting visual experience!
