The Palace as you may have never seen it before! Studio Idan celebrates the 45th anniversary of one of the most famous nightclubs in Paris with an exceptional exhibition entitled Jouissance | Liberté | Insouciance - Le Palace by Arnaud Baumann from April 25th to May 17th 2023. This retrospective presents photographs taken between 1978 and 1983 by the photographer, during the mythical nights of the Palace.
Through these works that are as aesthetic as they are meaningful, Studio Idan invites the public to an exhilarating journey through the history of this iconic place of Parisian culture. Visitors will be able to admire iconic works, witnesses of a period rich in emotions and sensations.
Inaugurated in April 1978, the Palace quickly established itself as a must-see nightclub in the image of the famous Studio 54 in New York. This temple of the party gathered French and international celebrities as well as anonymous people who came to enjoy uncompromising and taboo parties. The Palace thus became a pillar of the emergence of gay culture and a symbol of a carefree and extravagant era, marked by enjoyment, freedom and carefree behaviour. Today, the nightclub has become a showroom again.
Arnaud Baumann, a renowned portraitist, began his career immortalizing these moments of life and pleasure at the Palace. His photographs, both documentary and plastic, are made in long poses, making the colored lasers twirl and immersing the viewer in the heart of the party. Authentic and uninhibited, these images arouse in us the desire to reconnect with the lightness of that era and to (re)discover freedom.
A must-see for all night owls!
