Bistros, their atmosphere, their food, their style are part of the French culture. It is this little piece of history that interests the photographers Pierre Josse and Pierrick Bourgault, the two artists behind the exhibition Au bonheur des bistrots. This free exhibition is to be discovered from April 21 to May 31, 2023, on the gates of theCity Hall of Paris, and in the gallery inside the place.
More than a dozen photographs, one meter by one meter fifty, are exposed around and in the gallery of the City Hall. These images, in black and white and in color, tell the story of France yesterday and today. A festive, lively France, where everyone meets to share a meal or a drink. The bistro is a place of conviviality, where the land is honored.
For the two artists, these French bistros are places of unsuspected richness, " where one can come without distinction of class or origin," they explain in an interview on the website of the Paris City Hall.
Pierre Josse, editor-in-chief of the Guides du Routard, and Pierrick Bourgault, writer and photographer, are familiar with these bistros and cafés, which are often the heart of life in France's towns and villages. This outdoor exhibition allows them to pay tribute to this art of living, while drawing our attention to the progressive disappearance of bistros, whose number continues to decrease.
Don't miss this beautiful exhibition with such an unusual subject! And if you too were to discover the beautiful bistros of the capital?
