Galerie A&R Fleury is hosting a brand-new exhibition on Victor Vasarely, the undisputed master of this art form, entitled Victor Vasarely, Une autre dimension, from March 23 to May 12, 2023. The exhibition features 14 previously unseen works by the famous Hungarian artist.
Considered one of the most popular visual artists of the 20th century, Vasarely revolutionized art with his kinetic approach and plastic inventions. This exceptional exhibition takes visitors on a fascinating journey through two of the artist's key periods: the black-and-white period of the late '50s and the mid-'60s, when color and optics became central.
From the late 50s onwards, Vasarely concentrated on exploring the line and the square, a legacy of his past as a graphic artist. The three major works presented in the exhibition illustrate this period, during which the artist sought to distort these elements to create an optical effect. In the 60s, circles and spheres took on major importance in his work, offering the viewer a disturbing and hypnotic visual experience.
The Victor Vasarely, Another Dimension exhibition allows visitors to discover an array of vibrant colors and varied formats, testifying to the artist's enduring influence on the fashion and history of geometric abstraction. Vasarely left his mark on the collective memory with an art that exploited optical loopholes, thanks to his ingenious modular system. Inspired by artistic movements such as cubism, surrealism and figurative art, Vasarely created a new pictorial dimension and integrated art into everyday life.
