Hyperrealistic sculptures as fascinating as they are intriguing... From June 8 to November 5, 2023, the Fondation Cartier pour l'art contemporain is hosting a brand-new exhibition of works by Australian artist Ron Mueck. Visitors will be able to immerse themselves in the striking, realistic world of the sculptor, whose hyperrealistic resin and silicone sculptures have captivated audiences around the world.
Among the pieces on show, the monumental installation "Mass" (2017) is presented for the first time outside Australia. This spectacular work, made up of 100 giant human skulls, offers an immersive experience and questions the viewer about the human condition.
In addition, Ron Mueck has specially designed two new sculptures for this Paris exhibition, reflecting the recent evolution of his artistic practice. Untitled" (Three Dogs) is a new sculpture featuring 3 dogs, each 3 meters high. These colossuses awaken our childhood fears. Are they domestic, guard dogs or strays? We feel very small in front of them.
Another new creation is "This Little Piggy", a work that the artist has agreed to present unfinished. It represents a passage from John Berger's novel, describing this important moment in the life of a rural community. It shows a group of men engaged in the slaughter of an animal.
Also discover " A Girl ", the immense work of a newborn baby barely out of its mother's womb. Still showing traces of blood and its umbilical cord, this giant sculpture plays on the size of the ordeal and birth.
Another discovery is " Baby ", a tiny sculpture of a newborn baby boy. Inspired by an image found in a medical textbook, it hangs on a wall like a religious icon.
Finally, the exhibition closes with "Man in a boat", a mysterious work featuring a naked man sitting in a large boat. Like a drifting spirit, this sculpture gives off an impression of solitude and isolation.
The exhibition at the Fondation Cartier underscores the special relationship between the institution and the artist, initiated in 2005. Ron Mueck 's works are as rare as they are eagerly awaited, and this exhibition is a unique opportunity to discover the richness and diversity of his work. Contemporary art lovers and the curious are invited to come and explore this exceptional retrospective in the prestigious setting of the establishment. A must-see for all sculpture lovers!
