Travelling can be a wonderful experience, an opening onto new cultures, a journey full of discoveries... But it can also be a nostalgic, melancholy and lonely experience. These mixed feelings are beautifully represented in the creations of Seula Yi, a South Korean artist who explored Paris for two months.
These works are presented in the exhibition Lost in Paris, organized from June 15 to September 5, 2023, at the Slow Galerie. Personal, almost autobiographical, the exhibition follows in the artist's footsteps as she (re)discovers the capital. Seen through new eyes, the city appears colorful, magical and poetic... And quite large for the little characters who populate it.
An avid traveler, Seula Yi is no stranger to big, bustling cities. Through her paintings, the young artist immortalizes her escapades, but also her feelings, the sensations that each place brings her. Day and night, the city lives and changes. The painter sees beauty in every park, every building. She plays with color, light and perspective to recreate these familiar landscapes. The men and women who come to life in these paintings appear tiny in the midst of these scenes. With this play on size, Seula Yi conveys an ambivalent message that marks every journey: you can love this city, and still feel alone in the midst of the crowd.
Come and visit this free exhibition, and stroll through the Luxembourg Gardens, the banks of the Seine, the Tuileries, the shopping streets... A poetic stroll awaits you at the Slow Galerie!
