No doubt we'll be happy when French athletes win medals, during the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, on home soil! The whole country will be celebrating their victory, with an all-sporting joy. But the theme of victory can also bring to mind the military, artistic or political realms, and the Musée de l'Armée has decided to focus on this before the competition, with an exhibition that promises to be full of emotion, from October 11, 2023 to January 28, 2024.
This notion has been celebrated and materialized in different ways by the men and women who have changed history through their victories. Winning a battle, a war, a race or an election brings joy, relief and a whole host of positive emotions, an event that we want to tell everyone about and see perpetuated in our memories. This exhibition will follow the various phases that accompany victory, from its celebration to its commemoration, including its staging.
After victory comes homage, in the form of various objects and events, including trophies, booty, awards and ceremonies, which set in stone the feat achieved, and even monuments erected in honor of the heroes. This ritual has spanned the ages, from Roman triumphs to royal banquets, right down to soccer players parading down the Champs-Elysées! You'll be able to admire stelae and written representations, discover stories and songs of victory, but also put yourself in the place of the vanquished, because there's always a loser!
An exhibition that explores all the nuances of victory!
