Twentieth-century Swiss architectLe Corbusier is a major figure inmodern architecture. A pioneer of functionality and reinforced concrete, his emblematic creations include the Villa Savoye in Poissy and the Cité radieuse in Marseille.
Did you know that Boulogne is also marked by Le Corbusier's legacy? Between 1931 and 1934, together with Pierre Jeanneret, his cousin and close collaborator, he designed and built an innovative building, the first glass apartment block in architectural history. At the time, its location overlooking the Bois de Boulogne and Roland Garros was unique. It was here that the genius lived, worked on his projects and created some of his works. With no heirs of his own, he wanted a public institution to preserve all his archives, and so the Fondation Le Corbusier was born in 1968.
To perpetuate Le Corbusier's genius and influence, the Fondation organizes public tours of the architect's apartment-workshop, from September to the end of July.
Classified as a Historic Monument in 1972, the 240m2 duplex reflects the architect's architectural language: free plan, large glazed panels, roof terrace, polychromy and huge pivoting doors. It offers a unique atmosphere where interior and exterior merge harmoniously. Listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2016, it was restored in 2017 and 2018.
An inexhaustible source of inspiration,Le Corbusier's studio apartment is a sanctuary of creativity where the spirit of genius remains eternally alive.
