The Drawing Lab, renowned for its avant-garde exhibitions, welcomes artist Noémie Sauve for a singular exhibition, entitled Admiratio, from October 14, 2023 to January 7, 2024. Drawing its essence from the Latin notion of wonder mixed with astonishment, this term was, according to Aristotle, the prelude to all philosophical inquiry. Through this exhibition, Noémie Sauve invites us to rediscover this profound sense ofadmiratio, juxtaposing innocent wonder with scientific investigation.
The artist's unique approach is particularly tangible in the works derived from her participation in the scientific expeditions Tara in 2017 and Vulcano in 2021. During these expeditions, she does more than simply observe. She dives into the depths, collecting samples, recording colors and borrowing shapes. Back in the tranquility of her studio, she brings art and science together. Playing with a variety of formats, from sculpture to drawing to the chemical reactions of materials, she brings the invisible to life. Whether it's the fragile world of coral or the luminous glow of volcanic rock, the artist offers us a renewed vision.
Noémie Sauve's artistic approach is driven by the same curiosity and admiration she shares with the scientists she meets along the way. Her works transcend boundaries, blending the naturalistic with the fantastic. More than a simple representation, they are an invitation. An invitation to look at the world with fresh eyes, to marvel and investigate, encouraging each of us to reconnect with that lost sense of awe.
