Galerie La Lison invites you to discover an exhibition of works by Japanese artist Aya Wada, entitled Sumi et Motion, from February 29 to April 14, 2024. At the crossroads of traditional calligraphy and avant-garde painting, theexhibition offers an unprecedented immersion into a universe where the elegance of form intertwines with the depth of ideas. On the occasion of the opening, on February 29, the gallery also invited the curious to experience an original artistic adventure, during which the artist offered a suspended moment, with a demonstration of calligraphy in the purest Japanese tradition.
Aya Wada, an emblematic figure in the fusion of East and West, has been constantly pushing back the boundaries of calligraphy since she first took up the art at the age of seven. Her career, punctuated by awards such as the Mainichi Prize and the Kobe Cultural Encouragement Prize, bears witness to her ceaseless quest for innovation and dialogue between cultures. The Sumi et Motion exhibition embodies this approach, where each work reveals Wada 's ability to marry the influences of his Japanese and Chinese masters with those of European avant-garde pioneers such as Kandinsky and Miró.
The curious are invited on a journey through works inspired by Zen gardens and executed with exceptional mastery of black ink and rice paper (giving relief to the works) on washi paper. These creations, already acclaimed in renowned international venues, explore with finesse and depth the dialogues between tradition and modernity, between the lines of calligraphy and the spaces of painting.
Theexhibition also offers a rare opportunity to perceive calligraphy not just as an artistic discipline, but as a bridge between eras and cultures, inviting reflection on the universality of artistic expression. A great introduction for anyone wishing to discover the art of Japanese calligraphy... Shall we drop in?
