As the year of the reopening of Notre-Dame Cathedral in Paris, 2024 has seen a number of exhibitions focusing on the famous monument, providing an opportunity to rediscover it in all its aspects! From November 19, 2024 to March 16, 2025, the Musée de Cluny is organizing a presentation of sculpted pieces never before shown to the public, thanks to its conservation of a significant part of the cathedral's medieval sculpted décor!
The aim of this exhibition is to let the stones speak, thanks to a selection of fragments that allow us to imagine what has been lost and what has disappeared from the cathedral today, such as the bodies of the colossal statues in the Galerie des rois, the statue of Adam, a masterpiece of Gothic sculpture, or the traces of color in the restored fragments of the Sainte-Anne portal and the lintels of the Last Judgement portal, displayed in the room.
Nearly 120 works of art await you as you rediscover the cathedral's exterior and interior sculptural decor before the destruction of the modern era. At the same time, the exhibition"Feuilleter Notre-Dame. Masterpieces from the medieval library", will explore the history of the books, manuscripts and prints that were used for worship or study in the building, thanks to some forty items.
