Sakountala, inspired by Hindu mythology, was Camille Claudel's first monumental sculpture. Created at the age of just 23, this work had a turbulent career, between success and controversy, before sinking into oblivion. The exhibition looks at the creative process behind this masterpiece, its history and the many variations Claudel proposed throughout her career.
The "Camille Claudel à l'œuvre : Sakountala" exhibition brings together almost 100 objects, including sculptures, paintings, photographs, drawings, manuscripts, models and theatrical costumes. These works come from exceptional loans from the Musée Rodin, the Bibliothèque nationale de France and the Musée d'Orsay, offering a complete and immersive immersion into the world of Camille Claudel.
The "Camille Claudel à l'œuvre: Sakountala" exhibition is a unique opportunity to discover the work of this sculptor of genius in a highly symbolic place: the house where Camille Claudel spent her formative years. A place of remembrance and celebration, it retraces the artist's career and highlights her creative genius through 300 works of art.
The museum showcases not only the sculptures of Camille Claudel, but also those of other artists of her era, such as Alfred Boucher and Auguste Rodin, highlighting the influences and collaborations that marked her career. A must-see destination for art lovers and the curious!
