The Paris 2024 Paralympic Games are a golden opportunity to raise awareness of disability through events or exhibitions. For example, until September 8, a traveling exhibition by photographer Francesca Clayton will be on display in the Parc des Buttes-Chaumont, in the heart of the 19th arrondissement, in partnership with the Fondation Paralysie Cérébrale. Around a hundred 2-metre-high works will enable passers-by to question their view of difference.
Called"Different is beautiful", this open-air exhibition highlights "complex situations, success stories, self-acceptance and human strength", in poignant, monumental portraits. The aim of this photographic project is"to change the way people look at themselves, by showing the beauty of damaged bodies". Francesca met 100 models with disabilities: top athletes, models, influencers, parents, students, amputees, paraplegics, autistics, blind people, invisible handicapped people...
She then organized photo shoots in 18 towns across France and Belgium to create an exhibition that traveled across Europe. The public was invited to make donations, the proceeds of which went to research into cerebral palsy, the leading cause of motor disability in children.
