Minsky Gallery celebrates the start of the new school year, and above all the 100th anniversary of Surrealism, with an exhibition dedicated to the artist Leonor Fini, entitled Retrospective, from September 5 to November 2, 2024. This first in a series of three exhibitions, in collaboration with the Centre Pompidou, pays tribute to one of the most independent and creative figures of the Surrealist movement. Through a selection of rarely exhibited works, visitors can explore the fantastic, dreamlike universe of Leonor Fini, from her earliest creations in the late 1920s to her last works of the 1990s.

Leonor Fini, despite having rubbed shoulders with the great names of Surrealism, has always asserted her artistic independence. As she herself declared: " My painting follows the paths that dreams take ". This exhibition presents emblematic works such as Femme en armure (1938), in which Fini reinterprets the feminine image through the masculine attributes of chivalry, and a self-portrait from 1943 in which she depicts herself in the form of a sphinx, a recurring motif in her work.

In addition to the paintings, the gallery also highlights Leonor Fini's theatrical creations, including her sophisticated masks, designed for post-war Parisian costume balls. Theexhibition offers a complete panorama of her artistic career, spanning theater, painting and fantasy, testifying to the modernity of her work and her vision of androgyny, a theme dear to the artist's heart.
