Some people go in search of lost time. Her quest, however, is for the suspended moment. Through her works, French-English artist Meaghan Matthews strives to crystallize the moment, inviting us too to stop and contemplate. The Centre Tignous in Montreuil, on the outskirts of Paris and within easy reach of the metro, invites us to experience this plunge into a bubble where time seems to stand still, through theexhibition "La Lumière Comme Matière" (Light as Matter).
Here, we present a selection of works created by Meaghan Matthews as part of her creative residency at the Nelson Doris Lessing day nursery. Children were invited to experiment, contemplate, apprehend and appropriate her works, while awakening their senses through installations and workshops. This time, grown-ups too will have the opportunity to take part in this experiential exhibition.
In turn, the illuminated works invite us to observe the frozen movement of ink and the details of immortalized nature, which we can then admire. We experiment, awakening our senses in turn, and rediscovering the curiosity and freedom to daydream as we might have done at a tender age. Behind the caress of a veil, we find ourselves wrapped up in a cocoon where white noise and heartbeats lull us to sleep.
Equipped with a flashlight, we make our way to the other side of the mirror, or rather the black curtain, to discover an immersive visual and sound installation that invites us to relax as we experiment with the play of light and color reflected by our luminous brushes, sometimes in competition with other visitors, in a suspended moment where we savor the freedom to marvel.
As an added bonus for families, during some of the key dates of this residency, a program of early-learning workshops for toddlers awaits us:
