Art deco pool cabins transformed into street art? Now that's unusual. That's what you can discover in Molitor's indoor pool, which became a hotel a few years ago. After the resounding success of the first edition in 2018, Molitor unveils its second exhibition of artists' cabins.
Formerly reserved for swimmers to change, these cabins lining the indoor pool of the iconic Parisian swimming pool are transformed into ephemeral art galleries. Originally places of intimacy for bathers, they become spaces of artistic expression, allowing each artist to unveil his or her universe, while playing with Molitor's unique history and architecture. The artists offer unique and original creations, often inspired by water and the sea, but also by themes close to their hearts. To achieve this, all the old works have disappeared to make way for new ones.
This 2024 exhibition is resolutely international, bringing together 70 artists from all over the world. Renowned and emerging artists fromAfrica,Asia,Europe, the Middle East,North and SouthAmerica and France have been invited to invest the cabins with their art. In this way, we find ourselves transported from one cabin to another, travelling from one continent to another, while remaining in the heart of Paris.
Among the artists not to be missed are Shoof (Tunisia) and his vibrant Arabic calligraphy in pink, which questions the place of language and the relationship between light and water. From Mexico, Los Calladitos create a poetic fresco of a giant cactus receiving its first hug, inspired by an ongoing animation. We're also dazzled by stencil master Logan Hicks (USA), who fuses the history of the bikini at Molitor with Art Nouveau motifs.
Other international artists leave their mark on the cabins. Jade Rivera (Peru) invites us into an intimate scene where a child observes nature, while Garavato (Colombia ) denounces global warming with mutant animals. In Asia, Wenna (China ) transforms the narrow space of her cabin into a vast ocean, while Neethi (India) draws inspiration from French ceramics for a colorful, whimsical work. Each booth is a new invitation to discover the diversity of global urban art in a unique setting.
You can discover these creations free of charge this Sunday, September 22, during the European Heritage Days. A word of advice: don't come too late, as visits are made in groups of 15 as they arrive.
Theexhibition will then be open to visitors all year round, on Saturdays for a fee, or on Wednesdays at 6pm, starting in October 2024. Reservations are required for these tours. Please note that places to book are posted online every first day of the month for the following month. Of course, if you're staying at a hotel, you'll have free access.
But that's not all. Molitor is also organizing an exclusive, ephemeral exhibition, from September to November 2024, where you can admire and acquire sketches, canvases and drawings by the artists involved in the project. A unique opportunity for collectors and street-art enthusiasts to walk away with an original piece from this artistic adventure.
For enthusiasts wishing to keep a souvenir of this experience, Molitor is also preparing the release of a second volume of the book "Molitor: vibrations artistiques", published by h'artpon. This book, available for pre-order from September, will be officially launched in November 2024, and will take stock of this new edition of artists' cabins, a museum project as unique as it is innovative.
In short, if you're a fan of urban art, we recommend this highly unusual visit! 70 artists representing 37 nationalities, 100 liters of paint, 258 Montana Colors bombs used, and 3,570 steps climbed to reach the booths - the equivalent of two Eiffel Tower climbs on foot - it's enough to make your head spin.
Molitor, more than a hotel, continues to assert itself as a vibrant, multifaceted place to live. Whether you're a street-art enthusiast, a history buff or simply curious, this new edition of the artists' cabins offers an unprecedented plunge into the heart of contemporary art from around the world, in a setting as historic as it is exceptional. With the exception of the Heritage Days on Sunday, September 22, don't forget to sign up for visits at the beginning of each month.
