The world's biggest dictation was held on the Champs-Élysées on Sunday June 4, 2023, with 1,650 participants certified by Guinness World Records. Let's find out more about this exceptional event!

On Sunday June 4, 2023, many people turned out on the world's most beautiful avenue to take part in an extraordinary event: the biggest dictation ever organized. Orchestrated by the Comité Champs-Élysées, the dictation welcomed over 1650 people, 1397 of whom were officially recognized by Guinness World Records thanks to a rigorous methodology.

For a moment, the emblematic avenue was transformed into a huge lectern, welcoming participants for three separate dictations. The key words were taken from famous literary works, making this an unforgettable experience.

The day's "schoolchildren" were invited to write a first dictation on"Les Lettres de mon Moulin, La Mule du Pape" (Alphonse Daudet), read by literary journalist Augustin Trapenard. This first dictation set the record for the world's largest dictation.

The program also included :

  • A second dictation by novelist Katherine Pancol on a text of her choice:"Fille en colère sur un banc de pierre" by Véronique Ovaldé.
  • A third dictation, taken from Daniel Herrero's"Dictionnaire amoureux de l'ovalie", read by Pierre Rabadan, former international player with the XV de France and current deputy mayor of Paris in charge of sport and the Olympic and Paralympic Games.

Behind their desks, facing the blackboard, the participants composed, tuned and spelled under a radiant sun. All work deserves reward, and the Comité Champs-Élysées, led by its President Marc-Antoine Jamet, congratulated the Guinness World Records judge on this record-breaking dictation.

Not only did this dictation make history, but it also enabled the collection of numerous books in book boxes for the benefit of Bibliothèques Sans Frontières. The fight againstilliteracy and inequalities in learning to read and write were at the heart of this initiative.

By taking part in this monumental dictation on the Champs-Élysées, each schoolchild for a day demonstrated his or her commitment to French-style education and solidarity with a major cause. The emblematic avenue took on an unusual look, marked by ink, notebooks and chalk. What a wonderful discovery to relive the nostalgia of school, all in a fun and friendly atmosphere!

Ruth Elkrief, as master of ceremonies, and Jérôme Libeskind hosted this special day dedicated to writing and reading, inspiring enthusiasm and commitment from all concerned.

In addition to setting a new world record, the day served as a platform to highlight the importance of education and the fight againstilliteracy. The high patronage of the Ministry of Education and Pap Ndiaye reinforced the impact and scope of the event. What's more, the BIC Foundation, official partner of the dictation, contributed to its success by supplying the 4 Couleurs pens that stood up to the challenge.

The world's biggest dictation on the Champs-Élysées, which benefited from perfect weather, was a real success, making its participants part of history. And how many mistakes did you make?
