Opposite theArboretum de la Vallée aux Loups (just cross the road) is a small, lesser-known park well worth a visit. With its beautiful old house in the middle of the park, its large bamboo hedges, its small country pond and its pretty vegetation, l'Île Verte has all the makings of a country garden, where you could spend your summer vacations enjoying the fresh air and nature.
The small detail that makes this park so charming - in addition to the house left in its original state or the autumn colors that offer a landscape worthy of Impressionist paintings - is the little green island, from which the park takes its name, from which you can watch the ducks or read a book on the little stone bench! The park once belonged to Jules Barbier, a poet and playwright, who created this beautiful property in 1820. In 1933, the writer and co-editor of the Nouvelle Revue Française, Marcel Arland, stayed here for three years, before the painter Jean Fautrier settled here in 1945, until his death in 1964. Fautrier used to paint on the estate, and the Île Verte was named after one of his paintings.
In the Parc de l'Île Verte, stroll around the lovely pond, discover the house (from the outside), the well-tended vegetable garden and take the opportunity to relax, read, observe and recharge your batteries in this beautiful setting, classified as a Remarkable Garden. If you're feeling sporty, you can even cycle to the Île Verte from Paris, along the Coulée Verte du Sud Parisien!
