Many people know Rueil-Malmaison by its château, whereEmperor Napoleon I and his wifeEmpress Josephine lived. However, this pretty town in the Hauts-de-Seine département also boasts other châteaux, including Bois-Préau, set in an immense forest-like park.
This vast 17-hectare English-style garden offers beautiful walks, with paths perfect for a stroll, jog or family outing (even with strollers or people with reduced mobility). At its heart is the Château de Bois-Préau, built in the 19th century in the same style as the famous Château de Malmaison. As you stroll through the grounds, you'll come across meadows of green grass, a small lake hidden in the park and numerous species of trees. Chestnut and oak trees... The garden boasts several hundred-year-old trees, including the Byzantine hazelnut, Corsican pine and giant sequoia.
The park is open every day of the week except Tuesday, with opening times varying according to the month of the year. Admission is free and open to all. To get there, take the RER A towards Saint-Germain-en-Laye (about 20 minutes' walk to the park) or bus number 144 towards La Défense (stop at place Richelieu, then 10 minutes' walk). Have a nice walk in the Bois-Préau park!
