It's a small floating garden, recognizable by its tall weeping willows, at the very end of theÎle de la Cité: the Square du Vert-Galant, often nicknamed "the square at the end of the island", is encircled by the Seine, whose two arms divide at the tip of the small park. Located on Place du Pont Neuf, close to Notre-Dame de Paris cathedral and the eponymous bridge, it's the most picturesque and historic garden on the Ile de la Cité.
It's one of the most beloved romantic promenades in central Paris: the Square du Vert-Galant, named after King Henri IV (who reigned from 1589 to 1610 and whose statue dominates the square from the Place du Pont Neuf), was created in 1884.
Among the remarkable trees in this small square are a walnut tree, willows, a forty-ecus tree and a beautiful weeping willow at the tip of the island.
To get there, you'll need to go down to the quays of the Seine on the Ile de la Cité: the square is open every day, all year round, 24 hours a day. If you prefer to come by public transport, you can take metro line 7 (Pont Neuf stop) or line 1 (Louvre-Rivoli stop). Enjoy your visit!
