After opening a first address in the Belleville district, the People - formerly Les Piaules - has opened a second youth hostel in the Nation district. For this second address, we're off to Bastille and Oberkampf to put down our suitcases or treat ourselves to a truly gourmet experience. In terms of design, the English architectural firm Michaelis Boyd is in charge. They imagined an eco-responsible building made of wood, with a green roof.
Not necessarily well known but always financially attractive, youth hostels are the must for a low-budget stay in the French capital. Friendly, trendy... The concept has gradually been modernized to become particularly fashionable, with these cheap hostels offering accommodation right in the heart of the capital at an affordable price.
There are 30 dormitories for 4, 6 and 8 people, plus private rooms. In all, 192 beds are designed to respect the privacy of each individual. Each space is designed to be totally independent, with all the equipment you need to avoid disturbing your neighbor: telephone and USB sockets, lighting, a shelf for your personal items or tourist guide, and a closed locker for securely storing your suitcase. During your stay, it's up to you to choose where and how you'd like to sleep: in a dormitory or shared room with up to 8 beds and a shared bathroom, in a private room for two people or solo, or in a private dormitory if you're coming with a group of friends (including a private bathroom).
The highlight of your stay will undoubtedly be the rooftop of The People hostel: with its breathtaking view over Paris, it's the perfect place to enjoy breakfast, lunch, dinner or an aperitif with a view, while taking advantage of the vegetation. The menu featureslocavore cuisine with finely sourced produce. The only drawback is that you can't make a reservation - it's first come, first served!
Start the aperitif with a good spritz, a cosmo or a non-alcoholic, homemade iced tea.
For starters, try the excellent burrata with well-seasoned tomatoes, mini-pissaladières or eggplant fr itters.
On the main course, pizzas are the order of the day, but you can also opt for gourmet salads or pasta & basta, spinach ricotta ravioli with arugula. For our part, we opt for the pizza with Tarn coppa and creamy burrata in the center (we can't get enough of it).
We end the meal with chocolate hazelnut bombs, chocolate-covered doughnuts dipped in caramel and cream. All this while admiring the sunset over the square, for a relaxing moment set to music. Don't you feel good?
Please note that it's been over 4 years since our last visit, so the place and experience may have changed.
