You've probably heard of the River Café, a barge on the Seine that's been attracting visitors since 1992, just 2 minutes from Paris. If you want to get away from it all and eat or drink by the water, this is the ideal, original spot. To further seduce us, the place is reinventing itself and unveiling its new face. After a complete overhaul, the River Café is now ready to reveal its new assets.
For the record, the River Café is a 600m2 boat, divided into 2 rooms with very different styles, separated by a central bar. A superb glass roof at the bow of the boat brings even more light into the space, allowing lunch to be enjoyed on the water, sheltered from the wind. The atmosphere is green and welcoming, New Orleans-style.
On the other side, there's a change of scenery. It's like being in a living room that's both chic and modern. A fireplace, bookcases, banquettes and a piano set the scene, a décor that blends seafaring with home sweet home. It's the perfect place to feel at home, with a stunning view of the water. The decor was created by the architecture and design firm IMLC.
On the menu, a cuisine based on fresh products and entirely homemade, just the way we like it. The new formula leaves room for conviviality by introducing plates to share. From light and healthy to gourmet, there's something to suit every palate.
For our part, we let ourselves be tempted by the excellent Beef Tataki and the Tartare de Saumon Brûlé to start. Well-seasoned and rich in herbs, we couldn't agree more.
For the main course, Black Cod is a sure bet. We love the melt-in-your-mouth texture of this sweet and salty fish, accompanied by its delicious ginger-scented purée.
For something fresher, opt for the Prawn Poke Bowl with mango, avocado and turmeric. Ideal for hot days.
And if you bring your little ones, they'll be delighted to gobble up the nuggets and home fries. Note that the restaurant is family-friendly every Saturday and Sunday at lunchtime, from 12:30 to 3:30 pm.
Dessert options include fruit pastilla, baba and iced macaron. We opted for the superb Cheese Cake revisited and the Café Gourmand, the choice of the undecided.
On the pontoon, the River Café has even set up a few tables, ideal if you're seasick and want to enjoy the fresh air of the banks of the Seine.
In short, if you're looking for a nice spot to have a good time, maybe it's time to (re)discover the River Café!
Please note that it's been over 4 years since our last visit, so the place and experience may have changed.
