Just a stone's throw from the Louvre, in one of the capital's most beautiful districts, a refined restaurant awaits you for an exceptional dinner. Its listed facade in dark wood with gold lettering welcomes us, dating back to 1823, when it housed a grocery-cream store"La Renommée des Herbes Cuites". Paris has changed a lot since then, but the place has kept its soul, just as attached to the culinary trades, with a menu of French gastronomic classics in a refined, upscale atmosphere.
Opening at the end of 2023, La Renommée is the first restaurant to be opened in Europe by the American Hogsalt group. In a long room, adorned with paintings and carved wood on the walls, subdued lighting and leather banquettes, you can feel the history of the building and of a not-so-recent Old Paris, which gives you the impression of having changed era. Although the restaurant is rather dark, you'll feel right at home here, with its intimate atmosphere and attentive, particularly responsive and smiling staff.
The atmosphere is close to luxury, but not at all snobbish, and this is reflected in the prices on the menu, which aren 't exactly affordable but are a real guarantee of top-quality dishes. On the menu, with its light New York influences, you'll find exceptional regional products and recipes from yesteryear! We started the evening with three hearty, iodized oysters from Brittany, and a divine foie gras terrine with fleur de sel (24.95€).
Unctuous and very mild, served simply on its own on the plate, it has the quality of being self-sufficient. To accompany our dinner, the sommelier recommended a white wine from among 700 references, prompted by our floral desires, a Condrieu (23€) with apricot notes, which turned out to be perfect.
As for the main course, the menu has something for everyone, from beef to fish, lamb or rabbit. It's a far cry from the small portions of some gourmet restaurants: the plates are full!
The simmered rabbit pasta (36.95€), cooked with bacon and sage, was generous and comforting, melting in the mouth, while the milk-fed veal chop (69.95€) was tender and ideally cooked, making it easy to enjoy as it was already pre-cut, accompanied by rosemary and perfectly seasoned spinach.
After these admirable portions, we looked for an easy-to-digest dessert to share, and turned to the poached pear (28.95€) and its very fresh sorbet, coated in fleur de sel chocolate for an exquisite sweet-salty twist.
Downstairs, you can finish the feast in a confidentialcocktail bar under a magnificent vaulted cellar, haloed in black velvet chased with gold leaf, to a background of jazz, an opportunity to try the house creations in a Belle Epoque atmosphere.
Don't forget to make a reservation for a beautiful evening to give or to treat yourself, to celebrate an event or to really treat yourself before a digestive stroll under the Parisian moonlight.
