Looking for a good restaurant in La Défense? La City is a great success by Jérôme Vigato. If you can't see where it's located, you'll have to look up to the roof of the Grande Arche de la Défense.
This restaurant is the jewel of Jérôme Vigato, son of Jean-Pierre Vigato (ex-Apicius), former sommelier atApicius and a great wine lover. When he had the opportunity to take over the restaurant on the Toit de la Grande Arche de la Défense, he went for it, opening a bistronomic restaurant!
To enter the restaurant, you need to take the elevators to the Toit de la Grande Arche, located to the left of the Arche. There's no need to pay for access to the terrace, as the restaurant is accessible without paying for access to the rooftop.
La City is always busy, and you even have to book in advance to be sure of getting a table for lunch - it has to be said, the concept is a hit.
The keys to success? Warm service, tasty dishes, large tables and a simple menu, with a lunch menu at €38 with a choice of starter, main course and dessert.
For the City's menu, Jérôme Vigato has found a young chef, Mathieu Dos Santos, 28, who trained with some of the greatest names, including Le Meurice and Le Fouquet's. This early spring's menu features white asparagus and mimosa eggs, a velvety pea soup with horseradish and watercress, and a delicious sea bream ceviche.
After these delights, we move on to the main courses. We have the sea bass served with green asparagus risotto and wild garlic emulsion, or the excellent and very tasty vegetarian Bibimbap with its perfect egg, salsify, kidney beans, quinoa, rice, buckwheat and Gochujiong sauce.
To accompany these dishes, Jérôme Vigato has unearthed a selection of delicious wines from his wine list. Once you've had your fill of the tasty dishes, you're thinking of leaving? Not a chance, because La City's desserts are well worth a look: let yourself be seduced by the Biscuit Marigny with crème montée and Tonka sorbet, Guanaja chocolate ganache, the duo of roasted pineapple and carpaccio with hibiscus sorbet, or the beautiful Carrot cake with orange sorbet and carrot variations.
To digest your meal, don't forget to stop by the panoramic terrace for a stroll with a breathtaking view of Paris and La Défense.
Please note, however, that the restaurant is only open for lunch on weekdays, and Thursday evenings for afterworks.
