Looking for a real Mexican that rocks? You'll love spending your evenings at Mamacita, this new restaurant freshly opened on rue Rougement in the 9th district of Paris.
Mamacita is the story of three friends (François, Franck and Thomas) who joined forces to create a place that mixes good contemporary Latin American cuisine with a warm decor and a festive atmosphere.
After a stint at La Esquina in New York and El Pastor in London, they knew they had to open a similar spot in the capital. So here is the Mexican Tequeria, these taco bars that are missing in Paris.
Discover Mamacita on video :
At the arrival, we discover a big bar which goes along the right side of a spacious room. In the center, in an arc, the decoration is inspired by a Lucha Libre ring with a DJ corner on the bar side for nice animated evenings on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays.
We are in a Mexican atmosphere of street with falling plants and warm colors imagined by Cut Architect who had for objective to take us in the streets of the country.
At the stove, we find Mariana Beccera Mateos, young chef from Guadalajara, capital of the state of Jalisco, THE gastronomic region of Mexico. She trained with Beatriz Gonzalez at Neva, then Coretta. You will love her Tacos, Quesadillas, Tostadas and Ceviches which are just divine. The good point and not the least, it is that the tacos made with corn flour, are gluten free. What to delight the intolerant or allergic amateurs.
At Mamacita, sharing is a must. So we start by choosing starters to share. Mango guacamole, Pimientos, Holbox ceviche served in shells, Queso fundido (in other words, melted cheese, served with homemade tortillas) and Bunuelos de corn (doughnut) are placed in the middle of our table so that we can all have a bite. It should be noted that at Mamacita, everything is homemade, from chips to tortillas. We feel the freshness of food and the mastery of spices, we enjoy ourselves.
Side dishes, the specialty of the house is obviously the tacos. We launch ourselves in a choice of tacos served by two to share. Pork roasted on the spit, shoulder of lamb, gambas, vegan or fish, we have the choice. We generously sprinkle with lime and season with homemade chili, red or green according to our palate. The tacos are supple and are swallowed in no time. The menu also offers nice dishes: ceviches and salads, swordfish and sweet papato, faux filet and polenta or mixed vegetables are also on the menu.
We finish this meal with nice desserts which are not in rest. Lemon Pavlova with avocado and mango sorbet, coconut sorbet or Flan Napolitano await the sweet tooth.
On the bar side, the spot has selected the best alcohols from artisanal distilleries: Tequila, Mezcal, but also Mexican rum. We even travel to South America with a Cachaça, a Pisco from Peru and a Bolivian Gin. You are rather without alcohol, no worries, the place proposes excellent cocktails without alcohol and a beautiful selection of Aqua Fresca of which the famous Horchata that the Mexicans sip when they meet in family on Sunday.
In short, if you are looking for a nice restaurant to do with friends with a nice festive atmosphere, you now have the address to try!
Please note that it's been over 4 years since our last visit, so the place and experience may have changed.
