Pierre Hermé has opened a spacious café, rue de Grenelle, in Beaupassage, the secret passage of food in Paris. This café-tea room awaits us every day from 10am to 8pm, in a large, bright space decorated by Laura Gonzalez and a terrace that overlooks a pedestrian street, with no noise pollution!
After the opening of 86Champs on the Champs-Elysees in December 2017, this boutique café is the pastry chef's second. You can come here for lunch, coffee, but also buy the chef's pastries to go !
When we asked him why tea rooms? Pierre Hermé told us:"I am very interested in the world of Barista because it is a job that is very close to the job of pastry chef and complementary to the job of pastry chef. Because when you want to taste a pastry, what goes well with a pastry is a tea or a coffee". And of course, we agree with him. Nothing beats a nice cosy space for a good gourmet moment.
Pierre Hermé's Breakfast
For breakfast, Pierre Hermé offers classic pastries, Ispahan croissant (2,4€), kougloff (4,20€), granola, cottage cheese and fresh fruits to be accompanied by teas, delicious coffees or a Hot Chocolate at 12€. Note that the offer is not the same as at 86Champs : we were disappointed not to find the Cascaccino (the cappuccino with cocoa nibs) or the mogador hot chocolate.
For a king's breakfast, the Parisian breakfast formula includes a fresh fruit juice, a hot drink, a pastry of your choice (treat yourself and try the gianduja chocolate bread, the Ispahan croissant or the Kugelhopf to die for) for 14€!
Pierre Hermé's lunch menu
At lunch, we melt just by looking at the menu, which honors vegetables, legumes and proteins, to be accompanied by wines or cocktails without alcohol. As soon as you start, you can't decide between the Quinoa salad, teriyaki marinated tofu, pomegranate seeds and young herbs (14€) or the Organic shrimps from Madagascar, cucumber tagliatelle with coconut milk, pomelos and fresh coriander (15€). Then, the Ceviche of sea bream with citrus fruits (19€), the roasted Bresse poultry, eggplant caviar (21€) and the salad of crab, grapefruit, avocado and fresh coriander (28€) promise a very good meal.
Children can accompany us for lunch, with a 17€ menu that will delight them. You can choose between spaghetti bolognaise, roasted chicken with French fries or croque-monsieur, all of which make you really hungry and are rewarded with two macaroons or a couple of ice cream.
Pastries all day long
All afternoon, Pierre Hermé treats us with his best pastries, ice creams and drinks that he has imagined with the best ingredients to accompany macarons for a delicious break!
We have the iconic Ispahan macaroon (lychee, rose, raspberry), the 2000 sheets (a millefeuille with hazelnut praline, yes, yes!), the Ultimate (a delicious cake with a creamy cream made with Pure Origin Belize dark chocolate from the Xibun plantation, and vanilla), but also his Infiniment Chocolat Chaud, his Iapar Rouge du Brésil coffee (fruity, smooth and chocolatey) and his Ispahan ice cream couple!
Pierre Hermé's tea-time
Gourmets will even dare to take the Fetish tea time which highlights the Ispahan and Infiniment Chocolat flavors. For 70 euros for two, we share a crazy feast. Even the table is too small to accommodate the Ispahan pastry, the Carrément Chocolat pastry, the 2 Ispahan macaroons and 2 Infiniment Chocolat macaroons, the slice of Ispahan cake and Praliné & Chocolat cake, the Ispahan croissant, the chocolate & gianduja bread and the 2 non-alcoholic Ispahan cocktails and the Infiniment Chocolat hot chocolates that go with it all!
Does it make you want to? Reserve your table without further delay!
Please note that it's been over 4 years since our last visit, so the place and experience may have changed.
