After two successful editions, theAtelier Rodin is back at the eponymousmuseum , just next door to Les Invalides. On the program? A host of kid-friendly activities to ensure that even the youngest children have fun at the museum! This year, for the 3rd edition of the Atelier Rodin, the event is set in the context of the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games , with an original space where young and old are invited to move, to experience sculpture with their whole body.
As a family, we recommend you visit the Rodin Museum 's collectionsaccompanied by an audioguide designed for children, and go in search of the statues hidden in the 3-hectare French garden... Here you can discover some of the artist's most famous statues, such as The Thinker and The Kiss.
TheAtelier Rodin also features a relaxation area with a whole library of books, for reading in comfort, or a modeling activity for sculpting with cookie cutters and small molds.
Then head to the"Touche à tout" area to explore Rodin's favourite materials: marble, wood and bronze, and find out more about the various sculpting techniques. Don't miss the podiums set up in front of some of the statues to pose exactly like them, or the slide from one room to the next! And for families, the Rodin Museum is a real bargain : admission is free for anyone under the age of 25, so now's the time to go!
Our opinion:
If you're looking for a kid-friendly museum to take the kids from April to August, go for it! Put on your budding sculptor's smock and enter the Atelier: here, you'll find absolutely everything to keep children of all ages occupied, but above all, you'll get a real education with thoughtful, fun and genuinely interesting ways of introducing the youngest visitors to the sculptor's work.
L'Atelier Rodin has really been designed as a sensory exhibition, to awaken the senses: touch, with the mystery boxes to recognize the statues just by touching them; sight, with the coloring pages, the drawing workshops, the huge blackboard for sketching, the wall of statues in pieces that you have to put back together using magnetic devices... The sense of hearing, with Rodin Museum podcasts that explain the sculptor's work (to be listened to in "sound bubbles"), the sense of smell, with the smell of modelling clay to be kneaded endlessly in modelling workshops...
We love the playfulness of the exhibition, with the unusual slide rarely seen in a museum, the showcase of children's masterpieces displaying the drawings of young visitors, and the quiet corner with the library offering books for parents and children alike, with large cushions for hours of reading. The Rodin Museum has thought of everything, right down to the smallest detail: strike a pose by reproducing the attitudes of certain statues, imitate the famous Thinker, touch the marble, bronze or plaster to recognize them later on the finished statues. The notion of pleasure is at the heart of theAtelier Rodin, with this exhibition for touching, playing, running and sculpting, for an experience quite different from those we're used to in a museum.
