Augustin Pirate des Indes boards the La Nouvelle Seine theater and hoists the mainsail from October 8 to December 24, 2023 with his show for children. An interactive, olfactory voyage full of invention and good humor!

Oyé Oyé! Augustin Pirate des Indes, a big hit with kids aged 4 and up, returns to Théâtre La Nouvelle Seine from October 8 to December 24.

With a sailor's song and an ocean crossing on the back of a humpback whale, Augustin introduces children to spices, thanks to enchanting scented flags. It's a great way to get the imagination going... and spend some quality time with the family.

Augustin "Volubile" Poivre is just six years old when he becomes captain of a pirate ship. In search of the treasure of the Maharadja of Pondicherry, he crosses the Indian Ocean on the back of a humpback whale, confronts orangutan jungles, escapes ferocious tigers, and breaks into a candy palace...

In the course of his adventures, which also include a charming princess, disturbing bearded Dutchmen, a wild parrot and a one-eyed sniper, Augustin introduces us to a thousand and one spices with mysterious, bewitching scents.

Augustin's character is loosely based on the adventures of botanist and explorer Pierre Poivre. In the 18th century, this "missionary of spices" helped put an end to the Dutch East India Company's monopoly of the highly profitable spice trade, in favor of France.

Set against an evocative backdrop designed to appeal as much as possible to the imagination, Augustin, alone on stage, recounts his treasure hunt with infectious verve. To triumph over all dangers, he "enlists" young spectators eager for thrills into his crew.

If, in the 18th century, people fought fiercely over vanilla or nutmeg, today spices are synonymous with sensuality, cuisine and travel. Their origins are not always well known, and their scents not always identified.

That's why this show goes beyond mere entertainment to provide a few historical, geographical and botanical landmarks... During the show, Augustin lets you smell cloves, cinnamon, nutmeg... A fun and instructive way to keep dreaming with your eyes open.
