While a French Christmas may conjure up images of turkey stuffed with chestnuts and foie gras served on toast, there are many other dishes that take pride of place on the festive table in Venezuela. Would you like to discover them? Perfect timing!
Every Saturday and Sunday from 11:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. during the month of December, the new Totuma restaurant , which celebrates Venezuelan street-food, invites gourmets and the curious to a Christmas brunch revisited with a Venezuelan twist, featuring a max of the country's specialties. It's a way for Valentina, the owner, to introduce Parisians to her native culture.
On Saturdays and Sundays, the young chef invites diners to discover typical Venezuelan Christmas dishes, including the traditional hallaca, a cornbread topped with a stew of meats and accompanied by olives and raisins. The whole thing is wrapped in a banana leaf and tied up like a gift-wrapped package; a true Christmas specialty in Venezuela.
To accompany it, Valentina cooks Pan de Jamon, a bread rolled with ham, olives and raisins. It's one of the essential gourmet dishes for a successful Christmas meal in the chef's country.
It's a refreshing change from the usual French fare. It's a delicious journey!
