La Closerie Falbala, a major work by Dubuffet, is open free of charge during the Journées du Patrimoine 2024. On Saturday September 21 and Sunday September 22, please feel free to visit (booking required) this 1,500 m² masterpiece of art brut, built in the open air between 1971 and 1976.

If you love theart of Jean Dubuffet, and in particular his Jardin d'Hiver, a grotto integrated into the Centre Pompidou, then head to the village of Périgny-sur-Yerres, in the Val-de-Marne, for the Journées du Patrimoine 2023. On a plot of land near his studio, in the middle of nowhere, the artist built his Closerie Falbala, listed as a historic monument in November 1998.

This all-white structure is impressive in its size and execution. The artist, who was over 70 years old at the time of construction, had wanted to build a study close to his studio, a sort of"philosophical exercise room"as he called it. So he built a villa 20 meters long, 15 meters wide and 8 meters high. Inside is an Antichambre, which leads to Dubuffet 'sCabinet logologique .

Then Jean Dubuffet built a 1,600 m² concrete maze around his villa, with white menhirs and winding paths to keep the curious away. His aim was to isolate himself from his neighbors. The Falbala closerie was completed in 1976! The installation can be visited all year round, and includes a tour of the artist's former studios, where many of his works are preserved, including the model of the work that was destined for Renault Boulogne-Billancourt.

Intrigued by this mysterious building transformed into a work of art? Then come and discover it for free on Saturday September 21 and Sunday September 22, 2024. Guided tours of the Closerie and Villa Falbala are organized on the occasion of the Journées du Patrimoine. Please note that these tours are subject to registration and availability. Reserve your ticket now by calling 01 47 34 12 63.

Its sinuous walls surround the Villa Falbala, a windowless dwelling designed by Jean Dubuffet to house the Cabinet Logologique (1967-1969), the artist's "philosophical exercise room" and a Mecca of the mind. A key work from the Hourloupe period, the Closerie Falbala was listed as a historic monument in November 1998.
