The month of September brings its share of great events, and one of the highlights of the month, and even of the year, is the unmissable Journées du Patrimoine (Heritage Days). The principle is simple: over the course of a weekend, public and private sites alike open their doors to us, with a special program, often free of charge, inviting us to explore our heritage in all its forms. Paris and the surrounding region are not going to miss this opportunity to show off their treasures, and in the four corners of theÎle-de-France region, a host of good deals await us, to the delight of young and old alike.
Museums, châteaux, historic monuments, fashion houses, hospitals, ministries, embassies, libraries, churches... every year, all kinds of places lend themselves to the game. If you'd like to take advantage of the Journées du Patrimoine in Val-de-Marne, the town of Bry-sur-Marne is on board. On the weekend of September 21 and 22, 2024, you'll be able to explore the heritage of this town on the banks of the Marne. We've listed the program below to help you plan your day!

At Espace Maurice Joron
Created in 1973 and awarded the "Musée de France" label in 2003, the Musée Adrien Mentienne currently houses over 2,000 works relating to local history, local artists and the invention of photography.
On the occasion of the European Heritage Days, take a guided tour of the museum's permanent exhibition devoted to the portrait painter Maurice Joron (1883-1937), whose collection was bequeathed to the town of Bry-Sur-Marne in 1995 by the artist's daughter, Marie-Louise Joron.
Before or after your visit, from 2pm to 5:30pm, you can also enjoy fun activities for children and adults, based on the history of the town and the works in the museum (quiz, memory, game of Goose, puzzles...). These activities are led by Sylvie Druet. You don't need to register to take part in these activities.

Tour itinerary
Visit Bry-sur-Marne's historic center
Bry-sur-Marne has a very long history, a history that will be told to you during a guided tour offered by the association Évasions Bryardes.
The tour guide will show you places and buildings to which many characters are linked, linking local history to national history.
On this tour, you'll discover or rediscover the museum of Bryard painter Maurice Joron, as well as the Château de Bry-sur-Marne, the bourgeois property of German artist Christian Lorenz and its neo-classical columned gallery, and the church and its unique Diorama.
Along the way, you can also see the remains of the famous Château des Tuileries, which burned down in 1871.
Let yourself be tempted by a guided tour of a commune that has retained its village charm and is a pleasant place to stroll, just 12 km from Paris.
Visit Daguerre's Diorama
Louis DAGUERRE's last and only Diorama, created in 1842 at Bry-sur-Marne, is a monumental 32m² trompe l'oeil painting, a spectacle of illusions.
Before inventing the daguerreotype and becoming one of the fathers of photography, Louis DAGUERRE enjoyed considerable success with his theater-DIORAMA and his "diorama" paintings, true forerunners of cinema and 3D. Through his dioramas, Louis DAGUERRE highlighted the role of light in painting, the symbolic value of illusion and, more broadly, the viewer's new relationship with space and time.
The only preserved diorama in the world is the one Daguerre created in 1842, in the church of Bry-sur-Marne, the town of the brilliant image magician.
The Bry diorama is a trompe-l'œil designed to make visitors believe that the back of the modest church they have entered extends into a much larger Gothic choir. The show is as illusionistic as possible, thanks to the work's transformation from daytime to night-time effects.
The technique relies on the semi-transparency of the painted canvas on both sides, which is naturally illuminated from both sides, giving the impression of movement within the fixed canvas.
Come and discover it on this guided tour during the European Heritage Days.
