This weekend, we're going out! We're taking advantage of the Journées du Patrimoine 2024 in Paris to discover monuments we've never seen before. So, we're heading for the 16th arrondissement of Paris, to take part in a free guided tour of the Greek Cathedral of Saint-Stéphane (also known as the Cathedral of Saint-Etienne by some). A nugget often overlooked by locals, it can be discovered on September 21 and 22, 2024.
The seat of Greek Orthodoxy in Paris, Saint-Stéphane Cathedral hosted the wedding ofÉdith Piaf and Théo Sarapo in 1962, as well as the funeral of singer Maria Callas in 1977. In addition to these "celebrity" events, Saint-Stéphane also marks an essential architectural milestone in the appropriation and adaptation ofByzantine art by French architects and decorators in the second half of the 19th century. It was inaugurated in 1895.
For the Journées du Patrimoine 2024, the cathedral is opening its doors free of charge to the curious, to share its treasures, its history and its culture! To find out more about this cultural event, take a look at the program organized by Saint-Stephane Greek Cathedral.
