For the 41st edition of the Journées du Patrimoine, why not take a tour of the capital's churches and discover their stories? If you're in the 18th arrondissement and you'd like to visit something other than the Sacré-Coeur, we'll head for thechurch of Saint-Bernard-de-la-Chapelle, which is offering guided tours of its building on Saturday September 21 and Sunday September 22, 2024, during this exceptional cultural weekend.
Come and discover this Gothic-style church built between 1858 and 1862, remarkable for its proportions and homogeneous décor. Take the opportunity to admire the two large altarpieces in bas-relief on the transept altars, sculpted by Geoffroy-Dechaume, as well as the originalorgan, listed as a Monument Historique.
The Journées du Patrimoine are the perfect opportunity to rediscover our heritage in a whole new way. Now in its 41st year, this cultural event invites us to take advantage of free visits and events in museums and monuments, as well asexceptional openings in places that are usually closed to the public. For the occasion, the Île-de-France region becomes a playground for the curious and the passionate!
The City of Paris and the Institut National du Patrimoine (restorers' department) have signed a partnership agreement enabling student restorers to experience the realities of a restoration site, as in the case of the Saint-Bernard de la Chapelle church.
During the days of September 2024, the curator in charge of the church and the student restorers will present in situ the progress of work carried out since 2021 on three monumental works:
Adolphe Geoffroy-Dechaume's sculpted altarpiece in the chapelle Sainte-Geneviève
Henri Parfait's baptismal font
Tony Robert-Fleury's murals in the chapelle des défunts
Take a behind-the-scenes look at the restorer's craft with these exceptional tours.
