It was the first American Episcopalian church to be built outside the USA.

An iconic Gothic Revival building, it was designed in December 1880 by the famous Gothic Revival architect George Edmund Street. The first service was held on September 12, 1886, and the cathedral was consecrated on Thanksgiving Day, November 25, 1886.
