To restore women to their rightful place in history, the HF Île-de-France association is once again organizing the Matrimoines, the feminist counterpart to the Journées du Patrimoine. On September 21 and 22, 2024, take advantage of numerous free cultural events in Paris and Île-de-France, to get to know the great women architects, musicians, composers, painters, authors...
The Journées du Matrimoine (Heritage Days) feature more than twenty events and numerous major free events in and around the capital, organized for an exceptional weekend of encounters with the great women who have made France what it is today. For this 2024 edition, the French author, poet, woman of the people and philosopher, Fanny Raoul (1771 - 1833) is the figurehead of these new Journées du Matrimoine.
Meet Gisèle Halimi, Violette Leduc, Françoise Pascal, Christiane Desroches-Noblecourt, Monique Wittig, Louise Labé, Barbara, Juliette Tréant-Mathé, Andrée Chedid, Charlotte Brontë, Mel Bonis, and many other artists from all eras and artistic fields.
Don't forget to reserve your place for each event you wish to attend. The Journées du Matrimoine program is available below.

Every year, the Hôtel de Ville de Paris opens its doors for the European Heritage Days.
For the 41st edition, visitors will be able to discover the office of the Mayor of Paris, the Hôtel de Ville library, the Council Chamber and the ceremonial salons.
Parisian heritage will be at the heart of this visit. An exhibition and videos will present the major restoration projects carried out by the City of Paris on its heritage buildings, and the public will be able to meet the City's curators, restorers, historians and archaeologists to discuss their remarkable professions and missions.
Water heritage will also be in the spotlight, with an exhibition on restored Parisian fountains.
Stonemasons, ornamental sculptors, cabinetmakers, carpenters and restorers will be offering demonstrations of their skills, which have been handed down from generation to generation. A veritable heritage village will be set up in the Cour de la Maire de Paris.
The Conseil d'architecture, d'urbanisme et de l'environnement de Paris (CAUE) will once again be on hand to introduce you to a new way of exploring the city's heritage, thanks to the "Détour" urban walking app.
An exhibition entitled "Histoire de l'Hôtel de Ville, des origines à la reconstruction" ("History of the Hôtel de Ville, from its origins to reconstruction") traces the history of this exceptional building, marvelously maintained on a daily basis by the Hôtel de Ville's craftsmen, who will be on hand to present their trades: florists, locksmiths, upholsterers, watchmakers, parquet makers, chandlers...
For the third year running, the City of Paris is offering an "hors les murs" ("outside the walls") event at its 10 heritage and specialist libraries, which are still too little known to the general public. These libraries will plunge you into the heart of the 1920s, with a focus on Arts déco.
A number of new features will also be added to the tour itinerary this year, offering visitors to the Hôtel de Ville unique and unprecedented experiences.
Matrimoine will be given pride of place, with a dedicated exhibition since last year, which this year will host an exhibition proposed by the Conservation des œuvres d'Art religieuses et civiles (COARC) on women artists, sculptors and painters, in Parisian churches, not forgetting the presence, as every year, of the association HF Ile de France, which is shedding light on the work of women who have been invisible in the art world for too long.
Paris being the sponsor city, the model of the aircraft carrier Charles de Gaulle will be on display as every year.
Last but not least, an exhibition by Yann Arthus-Bertrand will highlight the social and environmental innovations deployed during the Olympic and Paralympic Games, and the teams behind them. Indeed, for the first time in 2024, thanks to the support of the Les Canaux association and the City of Paris, 500 local companies from the solidarity and circular economy have taken part in this fantastic project.
Mediators from the École du Louvre will be on hand in the lounges to comment on the decor and paintings.
Visitors with disabilities will be welcomed with personalized assistance and/or the loan of a wheelchair, in collaboration with trained volunteers from the Action Passeraile association.
Entry by registration only - Registration opens on Wednesday, September 11, 2024.
Editions Riveneuve
Christine Frérot, PhD in art history and specialist in modern and contemporary Mexican art, author of Alice Rahon et le Mexique, la révélation de l'art (Riveneuve, 2021), will present the life and work of this artist, forgotten in France. The lecture will be enhanced by fifteen projections of photos by Alice Rahon, who knew Frida Kahlo, Diego Riviera, Octavio Paz, Man Ray and Picasso.
Espace des femmes Antoinette Fouque
Galerie des femmes will present an exhibition from its "Musée des femmes", dedicated to Antoinette Fouque, co-founder of the MLF, creator of the Des femmes publishing house, which celebrates its 50th anniversary, of the Des femmes gallery (1980) and of the Musée des femmes.
This international, cross-generational exhibition celebrates the diversity and richness of women's creativity: from the colorful audacity of Niki de Saint Phalle to the timeless elegance of Druie Bowett, inviting us on a captivating journey through time and form: Sonia Delaunay, Geneviève Asse, Françoise Gilot, Natalia Dumitresco, Nina Kogan, Marie Laurencin...

In the man's world of the "Romanisches Café", Berlin's famous café and meeting place for the art world, a woman: Else Lasker-Schüler. A poetess with a kaleidoscopic personality to say the least, she opens the doors to a world on the bangs of the one whose established principles she refuses to accept.
This poetic-musical theatrical show, conceived, directed and performed by Odile Michel, invites the audience on an intimate journey to the heart of a universe that has a timeless resonance, to discover this poetess.
With : Odile Michel, director and actress, Philippe Baumann, video director, Guillaume Fontanarosa, violinist and Samuel Zucca, accordionist.
Cité Audacieuse
Olympe de Gouges declared in 1791: "Women have the right to go to the scaffold; they must also have the right to go to the tribune". In July 1914, journalist Séverine organized a demonstration attended by 2,400 people in favor of women's suffrage. But the war temporarily halted the movement.
In the form of a storytelling stage play and an exhibition of paintings, Amande Art brings together little-known female authors and painters from the past, to discuss women's right to vote.

"Fanny Raoul (1771 - 1833): author, novelist, political journalist, poet, philosopher, thinker and fighting woman, she published "Opinion d'une femme sur les femmes" in 1801. This brilliant, revolutionary manifesto caused a stir in the newspapers of the time, where she was quickly dubbed the "Armorican Amazon". In it, Fanny Raoul cleverly, impertinently and meticulously unravels misogynist prejudices and lies.
Typhaine D's interpretation of this avant-garde text, interspersed with disturbing winks at current events, invites us to hear Fanny Raoul's contemporary demands, her humor and her inspiring insubordination.
Afterwards, Geneviève Fraisse and Typhaine D will tell you more about Fanny Raoul's thought and history.
Come and discover an essential sister of our feminist heritage.
Martha Jane Cannary, a.k.a. Calamity Jane (1852 - 1903), may be a legendary figure of the American West, but she is above all an everyday, freedom-loving heroine. Through her letters to her daughter Janey, Calamity Jane reveals herself and delivers a musical tale that spans the ages.
With : Valérie Coué-Sibiril, actress, Ugo Perez, musician and Bruno Ouzeau, director and stage manager
Cinémathèque française
While the museum is still closed, several teams, hosted by an exuberant Selenite, compete to unlock Barbenfouillis' secret. Their mission: find Princess Azurine's moonstone ring, lost during the Moon Trip... Observation, deduction, clues... and speed! May the most perceptive team win!
For children aged 7 to 12.
A magician and inventor of special effects, Georges Méliès is the ideal guide to the history of cinema and special effects, from Metropolis to Hugo Cabret, from Moon Trip to Star Wars.
The Musée Méliès takes visitors on a fabulous journey of pleasure and wonder, through interactive devices, never-before-seen films, props, costumes and rare posters.
Students at ITM Paris (Institut Technique de Maquillage) put make-up on children inspired by the films of Méliès.
To accompany their discovery of the Musée Méliès, children can learn to draw on film and discover how to make a film without using a camera, thanks to the magic of projection!
For families, ages 6 and up.
Through a selection of photographs, posters, drawings, paper archives and vintage magazines, discover the secrets behind the special effects and techniques used to create cinema characters: imaginary creatures, historical figures, monsters, vampires, stars aged, rejuvenated, embellished, transvestites or metamorphosed, all born of the imagination and talent of make-up artists, prosthetists, costume designers, animators and animatronics technicians.
The world of Méliès' films is imbued with magic and phantasmagoria, and his heirs have fully exploited the fantastic vein of his cinema. Hidden in the museum, our storytellers will conjure up an imaginary world of amazement, mischief, fantasy and illusion.
With storytellers Anne Boutin-Pied, Philippe Imbert, Ana Laura Nascimento, Alex Pattie and Mathilde Van Den Boom.
A contemporary of the Nouvelle Vague, Liliane de Kermadec (1928-2020) was close to the "Left Bank Group", whose leading figures included Alain Resnais, Agnès Varda, Chris Marker and Jacques Demy. Although Aloïse, released in 1975 and starring Isabelle Huppert and Delphine Seyrig, is undoubtedly the film that has generated the most interest, access to the films, archives and photographs in the Liliane de Kermadec collection, donated to the Cinémathèque française in 2021 by her daughter Anne de Kermadec, should enable new generations to discover all the facets of this multi-faceted artist.

A series of portraits of French women composers from the 17th to the 19th century, to give these women the place they deserve in the history of music. "Une Histoire de rues au féminin"
In partnership with the Archives de la Ville
The naming of streets and public spaces is an opportunity to pay tribute to famous people, particularly women. These women can be pioneers in their field, activists for women's rights or simply representative figures of their era. Come and celebrate our heritage and discover the stories of these women, who can be found on every street corner in Châtillon!
From September 7 to 27, during Maison des Enfants opening hours.
"Castelet is not dead" - Cie Arnica (50 min)
Puppet theater / Created - Written by Gwendoline Soublin, Directed by Emilie Flacher
The Arnica company opens its castelet for the public space with its pack of girdle puppets, for a playful, whimsical family show with different levels of interpretation, which questions our mutating world. What kind of humans are we becoming, and above all, what kind of humans do we want to become?

Noisy-le-Sec - Nadia and Lili Boulanger Conservatory
Often hidden away, forgotten or the wives of illustrious composers, many women composers have often remained in the shadows of the musical landscape.
Conceived as a lyrical fresco around the prevented destinies of women composers, this show brings to light a rich repertoire, from the earliest to the most recent. Several scenes will follow the meandering life of a woman composer, a symbol of the forgotten in music history.
Bobigny - Jean Wiener Conservatory
Alice Guy is often recognized as one of the first female directors and producers in the history of cinema.
A director, visual artist and photographer, Agnès Varda transcended artistic boundaries with her innovative style and unique view of the world.
During this screening, these two pioneers will echo each other, as a few short films by Alice Guy will precede the screening of Agnès Varda's musical film L'une chante, l'autre pas.
Bobigny - Collège Pierre Semard
The city of Bobigny's municipal archives are offering a guided walking tour, featuring plaques on the lives and work of women such as Francine Holley, Jacqueline Bosson-Auzolle, Françoise Salmon and Irmgard Sigg. This urban tour is an invitation to discover the city through the prism of the women whose achievements, stories and struggles have helped shape the city of today.
La Courneuve water tower
How can we show women's place in history through an urban stroll? How can we mobilize the material traces of the past, or the lack of them, to tell the story of women in a territory, in a public space? Come and take part in an attempt to tell the story of Courneuvienne's history, at the crossroads of the issues facing our contemporary society.
