The Journées du Patrimoine (Heritage Days) are back and will be held on September 21 and 22 for the year 2024! For the occasion, the International Visual Theatre, an emblematic venue for deaf culture, is offering you an original and entertaining visit, while immersing you in the world of sign language.

The Journées du Patrimoine are back! After Paris was shaken up by the Paris 2024 Olympics, French cultural traditions are back in full swing, and the Journées du Patrimoine (Heritage Days ) are descending on the capital over the weekend of September 21 and 22. The International Visual Theatre (IVT), founded in Paris in 1976 by Alfredo Corrado, is a unique institution dedicated to the promotion of visual theater and French sign language (LSF). IVT plays an essential role in promoting deaf culture by integrating LSF into its artistic productions. Located in the 9th arrondissement, it offers a varied program of shows, workshops, training courses and cultural events accessible to all.

In addition to theatrical performances, IVT organizes educational activities to raise public awareness of the importance of visual communication. Workshops and training courses enable participants to discover and learn LSF, while performances offer total immersion in a universe where bodily and visual expression take center stage. Thanks to these initiatives, IVT enriches the Parisian artistic scene and builds bridges between the deaf and hearing communities.

    Push open the doors of IVT for a day to discover the richness of this emblematic site of deaf culture.

    Discover the history of IVT, from its creation in 1977 at the Château de Vincennes, through its first theatrical creations in sign language, to its reopening at the Cité Chaptal in 2007.

    Discover Deaf culture through this immersive tour that will immerse you in sign language.



  • Guided tour of IVT in LSF

    Come and discover the history of IVT and 7 Cité Chaptal during this guided tour.

  • Discussing diversity in cultural venues

    Diversity, whether linguistic, cultural or social, is a key element in today's challenges.
    IVT-International Visual Theatre has always been a place with a dual culture: deaf and hearing. Come and discover how these two cultures meet and enrich each other in this unique venue, and how a mixed deaf/hearing team works together.

  • Conference on deaf history with Yann Cantin
    Saturday, September 21, 7:00 p.m.

    Deaf history is full of personalities who have fought to change the place of the deaf in our society.
    Come and discover them thanks to Yann Cantin, French deaf historian and lecturer at Paris 8 University.
