It is one of the very symbols of the 8th arrondissement: the Eglise de la Madeleine opens its monumental doors on September 17 and 18, 2022, for European Heritage Days. This religious building, of neo-classic style, was designed by Napoleon I to honor his imperial army.
Built between the 18th and 19th centuries, this monumental church enjoys a surprising story and original architecture. Thought like a Greek temple, the church could have been changed into a train station. The greatest artists of the 19th century took part in the project to make of this church a genuine work of art inspired by the greatest monuments of Ancient Greece.
The church provides special tours on European Heritage Days to unveil all about its secrets and history. Take part in this journey back in time and come and admire this church with immortal beauty.
(Re)discover the treasures of the 8th arrondissement thanks to European Heritage Days. And for the boldest of you, do not hesitate to explore historic sites in Île-de-France!
