It's time for another edition of the European Heritage Days. This cultural event takes place every year, usually on the third weekend of September, and offers a rich program of visits and discoveries in museums, monuments, fine institutions and even places closed to the public, including ministries and embassies. On the menu are exceptional visits, often accompanied byevents, concerts and workshops to delight young and old alike.
Paris and the whole of the Île-de-France region are obviously part of the program, and it's even an opportunity to discover the treasures of the region's heritage. In fact, in the Yvelines, the town of Carrières-sous-Poissy is gearing up for a promising 41st edition this weekend of September 21 and 22, 2024. Located on the banks of the Seine, the town invites us to discover its historic monuments through a program specially designed for the occasion. We reveal what's in store for you this year in the town, so you can take advantage of these visits and events specially designed for the Journées du Patrimoine 2024!
At Château Vanderbilt
Themed guided tours of this landmark of Carrière history, meetings with artists in residence, artistic performances and brunch (service at 12 noon and 1:30 pm - €28 for adults / €15 for children) are on the program.
At Saint-Joseph church
Until 1663, when the first vicar settled in Carrières, Carriérois were obliged to cross the plain to Triel, under the authority of the bishopric of Rouen, to attend church and settle all the administrative details of their lives (marriage, birth or death certificates...). It would undoubtedly have been more logical for them to settle such formalities with the parish of Poissy, but the latter depended ... on the bishopric of Chartres! It wasn't until 1801, however, that the parish of Carrières became totally independent. Come and discover or rediscover this historic site in Carrières-sous-Poissy.
At City Hall
Nestled in a loop of the River Seine, Carrières-sous-Poissy offers its residents all the charm of a small modern town, proud of a past that is still reflected in the diversity of its landscapes: surprising limestone quarries, a lush green road that runs alongside the River and the Canal de la Dérivation, once a Mecca for inland waterway transport, a fish-filled lake famous for its floating fishermen's cottages, a vast market-garden plain bearing witness to a once prosperous agricultural activity... Just a stone's throw from the capital, it's like being in the country! Discover the town's history and heritage through this exhibition.
To mark the 80th anniversary of the liberation of our town, the Cercle d'Études Historiques et Archéologiques de Poissy et Carrières-sous-Poissy will host a conference.
For the occasion, a student from the municipal music school will perform his composition "DDAY". He will be followed by a duo of cello students who will play a number of pieces from the past and the present.
The jazz trio Franck et Juliette, featuring violin, guitar and double bass, brings the day to a fitting close.
To inaugurate the new square around the Puits artésien in Carrières-sous-Poissy, we're inviting you to share a moment of conviviality over a cup of coffee.
At the insect house
The Maison des Insectes is an architecturally remarkable building, perfectly integrated into its environment.
Come and discover, free of charge, this extraordinary architectural heritage, nestled in the heart of an exceptional fauna and flora heritage.
Two exhibitions on the theme of discovering nature and the environment await you, to enhance your knowledge and fill you with wonder.
A permanent exhibition of living insects, to better understand their essential role in ecosystems and the importance of preserving biodiversity.
A temporary exhibition from the Yvelines department on plant biosiversity, called "les beautés de proximités", featuring the park's most beautiful flowers.
At the Octave Mirbeau multimedia library
For the 9th edition of the "Patrimoine en poésie" (Heritage in Poetry) competition, organized by the Region and DRAC Île-De-France, the Médiathèque is inviting children to visit and highlight heritage monuments in the town or department. Then it's time to give free rein to their imagination by writing a poem about it.
People of Grass Park
Come and discover the wealth of animals in the Parc du Peuple de l'herbe. Alongside experts, learn how climate change requires animals to modify or adapt their living conditions, and what role mankind can play in helping them to do so.
From age 6.
Nightfall sees the emergence of many animals that are seen as frightening. Come and try to listen to and discover one of the most fabulous nocturnal animals: bats. These damselflies of the night, with their ballet-like flight, will no longer hold any secrets for you!
