Lockdown, de-containment, re-containment and without forgetting curfew, restaurateurs are getting lost in the waltz of coronavirus epidemic-related restrictions.
In Paris and Île-de-France, even though restaurants adapted by proposing delivery or click & collect, or by changing their opening hours, they are fighting for their lives. Already shaken up by protestations, especially linked to the yellow jacket movement, and the strike against the pension reforms, the storm caused by the coronavirus pandemic casts a shadow on their future.
Interviewed by Le Parisien, Union des métiers et des industries de l’hôtellerie vice-president Jean Terlon addressed the situation and the new forced closure caused by the new lockdown. Despite the financial supports granted by the State to support sectors directly or indirectly hit by the closure of non-necessary stores to the life of the nation, he thinks 30% of the restaurateurs in Île-de-France could close down. On a regional basis, it means about a third.
